Curious and inventive children wanted to join our Wonder Panel
This form is now expired. Thank you to all those who have submitted files.

Is your child full of wonder? Are they a curious and inventive stretchy thinker who enjoys figuring things out?

If so, they could be in line for a spot on the UCD and Irish Independent Wonder Panel – a unique gathering that will help to create a series of exciting books that challenge young minds and their imaginations.

To coincide with World Book Day, we are looking for six children aged between 8-12 to contribute to this year’s editions of the highly-successful Science Apprentice series of books.

In the weekly Science Apprentice series, published by University College Dublin and supported by Science Foundation Ireland and the Environmental Protection Agency, readers are brought on an interactive journey from how things are made, virtual and augmented reality and super bodies to clean cities and all topics to do with the air.

Throughout the books, Irish experts are on hand to explain concepts and answer questions as we uncover some of the big ideas that are changing our lives.

In 2016, our Science Apprentice series of five fun books was a hit with readers, and encouraged children and adults of all ages to explore the science, technology, engineering and mathematics of the world around us.

Our Wonder Panel advisors will meet a number of times to tease out the ideas in the books in a fun way, with their parents and teachers being offered an opportunity to join in.

Participation will involve three trips to University College Dublin on Friday afternoons on the 20th of April, 18th of May and 22nd June.

The Wonder Panel will come to the Kilty Outreach Laboratory in the O’Brien Centre for Science to meet the scientists involved in the project. The panel will also help the writer develop our stories and help our designer with page and character design. We want to work with the Wonder Panel to figure out how to create the best books possible.

With your permission, they can tell us about how they think differently. Please refrain from including any information which could in any way identify your child.

If your child would like to be involved in this creative adventure, simply fill in your contact details and the stretchy thoughts of your child below.
